If This Is Romance, You Can Keep It

The other day I was in the car and a Billy Joel song came on the radio. For the first time, I really listened to the lyrics of Just the Way You Are and was disappointed. Most of the song is nice, but one part just really stuck out and ruined the song for me, probably for good.

I don't want clever conversation
I never want to work that hard
I just want someone that I can talk to
I want you just the way you are.

It's as though he's saying he wants her just the way she is and she isn't capable of clever conversation. If jaymen ever fed me that line, I'd be offended. He can think it all he likes, but he better not say it.
